Amid numerous sightings of Tesla’s production-ready Model 3 in Northern California and as far as New Zealand, Teslarati has received tips that the highly anticipated electric car has made its way down to Los Angeles. A tipster by the name of “Martian X” sent us the following photos via the Teslarati app, revealing a silver Model 3 release candidate stationed at the Tesla Service Center in Burbank, California Monday morning. Though a metallic silver Model 3 Alpha has been spotted outside of SpaceX on several occasions, today’s sighting is the first time we’re seeing a release candidate making its way down to Southern California. According to sources at the Burbank Superch…

Weekly rapid reuse launches expected by 2019 The foggy, atmospheric launch of Iridium-2 just yesterday. (SpaceX) Following a weekend of extraordinary accomplishments, seeing SpaceX flawlessly execute two missions – one with a reused first stage – in just over 48 hours of each other, the company has capitalized on a uniquely successful weekend and year and offered information about their future plans. The launch of BulgariaSat-1 and Iridium-2 on Friday and Sunday respectively marked the eight and ninth launches of 2017 for SpaceX, and officials at the company are reportedly expecting to launch approximately 24 missions this year, meaning 15 more to come over the next 6…

Last night, eagle-eyed Tesla fans spotted a Model 3 prototype arriving in New Zealand through Auckland Airport, and they flocked to social media to share what they saw: These photos of the Model 3 on shipping platforms come from the Tesla Talk New Zealand and NZ EV Owners Facebook groups, and are the first sightings of a Model 3 outside of the U.S. Aside from the Model 3 Auckland Airport sighting being the car’s international debut, this is also the farthest a Model 3 has ever been from Tesla HQ, with the Palo Alto-to-Auckland route hitting over 12 hours by plane. There has been a flurry of guesses as for why the lefty vehicle would be in New Zealand, a right-han…

Tesla’s unique business model allows them to sell vehicles directly to consumers through both retail locations and Tesla’s online design studio. Direct-to-consumer sales of its vehicles have led to some turbulence with existing car dealerships in many states, including Utah, Louisiana, Connecticut, Texas and Michigan. New Jersey allowed Tesla to open direct sales in the state in 2015, but with conditions. New Jersey’s legislation limited the number of direct-to-consumer dealerships per manufacturer to four stores and required at least one service center in the state. Tesla CEO Elon Musk once compared local car dealers to a mafia protection racket, stating in a Tesla blog …

Tesla Model S early adopter and one of the first Tesla-focused YouTubers, KmanAuto, is back with another death-defying Autopilot versus human test. This time pitting his Model S against friend and serial test dummy Mike Anthony who rides a bike directly into the path of the moving two-ton electric sedan. The experiment conducted by Kman and Mike is in response to a recent article that claims Tesla Autopilot will kill bikers. Through a series of tests that involved driving a Model S between 18 mph (29 kph) to 30 mph (48.28 kph) directly into Mike while he’s on a bicycle, Kman aimed to disprove any notion that Autopilot acts erratically and will collide with bikers. The v…

SpaceX has successfully launched its second Falcon 9 mission in less than 48 hours, lifting 10 Iridium NEXT satellites into Low Earth Orbit and recovering the first stage in the Pacific Ocean in spite of sub-optimal weather conditions. This launch saw the debut of improved titanium grid fins on the first stage of Falcon 9, providing the vehicle with better control authority and greater ease of reuse. One distinct benefit of these new grid fins is that they no longer require an ablative coating of heat-resistant paint like their aluminum predecessors. In the past, this paint would vaporize in the heat of reentry and cover the camera housing on the first stage, interruptin…
