Prisoners in Allach, a subcamp of Dachau in Germany, work in the Bayerische Motoren Werke (BMW) plane-engine factory. As the war progressed, camps provided an invaluable pool of labor for the German armaments industry. Private firms such as BMW could hire slave laborers at extremely low costs. In the 1990s business "arrangements" of this sort came back to haunt BMW and other still-extant German firms.
