Abraham[a] (né Abram) is the common patriarch of Christianity, Islam, Judaism, and other religions.[1] In Judaism, he is the founding father of the covenant of the pieces, the special relationship between the Jewish people and God; in Christianity, he is the prototype of all believers, Jewish or Gentile; and in Islam he is seen as a link in the chain of prophets that begins with Adam and culminates in Muhammad.[2] The narrative in the Book of Genesis revolves around the themes of posterity and land. Abraham is called by God to leave the house of his father Terah and settle in the land originally given to Canaan but which God now promises to Abraham and his progeny. V…

Being widowed, divorced or never married increases the risk of heart disease. Being married may reduce the risk of heart disease and cardiovascular death, a review of studies has found. Researchers pooled data on more than two million participants in 34 studies carried out in the United States, Britain, Japan, Russia, Sweden, Spain, Greece and eight other countries. They found that compared with married people, those who were unmarried — whether never married, widowed or divorced — were 42 percent more likely to have some form of cardiovascular disease and 16 percent more likely to have coronary heart disease. The unmarried also had a 43 percent increased l…

Coffee is far from a vice. There's now lots of evidence pointing to its health benefits, including a possible longevity boost for those of us with a daily coffee habit. The latest findings come from a study published Monday in JAMA Internal Medicine that included about a half-million people in England, Scotland and Wales. Participants ranged in age from 38 to 73. "We found that people who drank two to three cups per day had about a 12 percent lower risk of death compared to non-coffee drinkers" during the decade-long study, says Erikka Loftfield, a research fellow at the National Cancer Institute. This was true among all coffee drinkers — even those wh…

As the one-year anniversary of Chester Bennington's death approaches, his widow Talinda has compiled a list of all official memorial services worldwide. "There are so many beautiful memorials planned all around the WORLD in honor of Chester," she wrote in a tweet. "I wanted to share them with you." She shared a link to a Google document that gives further context around the list and #LPMemorial2018. "The main purpose of this hashtag is to find the memorials specific to the one year of ChesterÂ’s passing, but also to simply separate upcoming events from the past ten months, as the hashtag took off beyond our expectations," Read more: http://loudwire.com/cheste…

Here’s a reminder from your Econ 101 textbooks: institute 25% tariffs on steel imports and 10% on aluminum and you can expect international backlash. Especially when the decision is based on a Cold War-era statute that can be invoked when foreign imports pose a risk to national security. Because threat or no, that type of declaration is bound to put the U.S.Â’ relationships with other countries on shaky ground. And it didÂ… Some context: The U.S. is the worldÂ’s largest steel importer (26.9 million metric tons in 2017). HereÂ’s what some of our suppliers had to say: Canada: “It will take responsive measures to defend its trade inte…

When did Pharmaceuticals first realize that they were better off producing a drug with the "Medicine-as-a-Service" (MaaS) model rather than trying to cure or 100% eliminate certain diseases?

Push notification. Midnight ET. Friday, July 6. "The U.S. officially places tariffs on $34 billion worth of Chinese goods. China retaliates." Let's not kid ourselves...tariffs are a big deal. But you should keep in mind that they're nothing new. Here are five other tariffs from U.S. history that you'll want to use in any casual trade war conversations you have at the bar. The Tariff Act of 1789 Before he was tap dancing on Broadway, Alexander Hamilton argued that a young America needed to institute tariffs. His thought process? Taxes on imported goods would be a vital revenue source for the federal government. Tariffs would encourage the dev…

How to Move On When Your Ex Already Has

“Like a sandcastle, all is temporary. Build it, tend it, enjoy it. And when the time comes, let it go.” ~Jack Kornfield I picked up the butter cookies and a small postcard-sized painting I had brought for her. I took the third-floor hotel elevator down. Closing my eyes, I took several deep breaths. The elevator ride was less than five seconds, but our time spent apart was five years. Five years after the divorce I had flown up to see her again. I’m not sure what led to this meeting. We had emailed each other a couple times out of the blue, and before you know it, we were meeting. It could have been our final goodbye, the closure we neede…

You’re Not Busy, You’re Just Rude

‘I’m busy,’ signals you don’t have room for friends; be specific or cut back your calendar I recently asked a friend I haven’t seen in months if she wanted to get together and catch up. I envisioned us gabbing over cocktails at the new Vietnamese restaurant in our neighborhood. Or maybe I could fix her dinner. Her reply: “Sure. Why don’t you stop by for 45 minutes to an hour on Monday night around 8:30.” Continue reading

The McDonald's McGold Card is a food-redemption ticket that provides the owner with free, unlimited McDonald's for life. The existence of the card gained international attention after actor Rob Lowe flashed his on Jimmy Kimmel Live in 2015. Since then, it has been revealed that a range of VIPs and celebrities have their own version of the card - from Bill Gates to Warren Buffett. So how do 'normal' people go about getting one? Here are the details. When Rob Lowe appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live with a golden McDonald's card last year, one big question remained: How could the Average Joe get his own card that granted him access to unlimited McDonald's? Not easily, a lit…
