Tesla has listed for sale the first Model 3 accessories available in the company’s online storefront. Similar to the accessories being offered to Model S and Model X owners, buyers of Tesla’s mass market Model 3 have the option to purchase a Tesla charger for their home or business, and an additional J1772 charging adapter for use at public charging stations. In addition to the high amperage charger, billed as the Tesla “Wall Connector” that’s capable of charging at approximately 30 to 50 miles per hour (~50 to 80 km/h), Model 3 buyers also have the option to purchase a Front Glass Roof Sunshade and Phone Charging Cable. Mon Jul 31st, 2017 7:00pm By Paige Cornwell The Seattle Times Washington has one of the highest levels of homeless students in the nation. And in a three-year span, when the number of homeless students in Washington grew by 30 percent, the amount of federal funding provided to help those students only increased by 8 percent. Those findings are part of an annual report by the Institute for Children, Poverty and Homelessness (ICPH), which analyzed each state’s homeless-student population. Though the data is from the 2014-15 school year, it provides a snapshot into where homeless students live and how they perform compared with their classmates. …

Tesla batteries could be used as energy storage for a wind farm off the coast of Massachusetts. Deepwater Wind LLC is looking to partner with Tesla for the 144-megawatt project, as reported by Bloomberg. The company will bid with the state of Massachusetts to build offshore wind turbines that would provide clean energy during peak hours. The facility would help supplement the power grid by charging up late at night and delivering power during high volume times, according to Deepwater Chief Executive Officer Jeff Grybowski. National Grid Plc, Unitil Corp. and Eversource Energy — three Massachusetts utility companies — are requesting $9.45 million of clean energy and…

A group of Tesla employees has written a letter to the independent members of the company’s board of directors. In it they push for access to Tesla’s safety plan, clarity on compensation and neutrality, and non-retaliation agreements in an effort toward unionization. The letter and unionization efforts were led by the “Tesla Workers’ Organizing Committee”, and posted on union-backed website fairfutureattesla.org. “We are facing a set of challenges – challenges that are holding us back from working as effectively and efficiently as we would like,” the letter says. “We have raised these issues repeatedly, but they remain unresolved. Your guidance navigating them would b…

A Volkswagen executive is expected to plead guilty on Aug. 4 to charges relating to the “Dieselgate” scandal that deceived VW buyers into thinking that the vehicles were not harmful to the environment, according to a federal court spokesperson. Oliver Schmidt, chief of Volkswagen’s environmental and engineering center in Michigan, faces 11 felony counts and up to 169 years in prison. The former executive was caught earlier this year trying to flee to Germany and has since been held by U.S. officials. The details on the plea deal for the German executive are not clear, according to Reuters. Schmidt is one of eight executives charged in the aftermath of the scandal. T…

German chipmaker Infineon said Tuesday it will supply parts to Tesla’s new Model 3. The manufacturer, who already supplies for the Model S, was originally passed up for the gig by Tesla. STMicroelectronics, a French-Italian company, was granted status as the initial chip supplier to Tesla’s $35,000 EV, which began delivery on Friday. Infineon confirmed the deal in a press conference after reporting its third-quarter profits above analyst’s predictions. “We do not comment on the individual models,” said Reinhard Ploss, Infineon’s chief executive. “But we will also be present in Model 3.” According to Reuters, Infineon’s chip technology is included in eight out of 10 o…

So you dropped a smooth $1000 to reserve your new Model 3, but decide that Tesla’s latest mass market car isn’t in your future anymore. What are your options? The company’s website says deposit holders can cancel at their own will, with the company’s Model 3 Reservation FAQ saying that “refunds can take up to three weeks depending on your country of delivery.” A recent piece by Wired did a deep dive into the topic, and found that some people have been waiting longer than those 3 weeks to receive their refund. Shashank Chitti, a former Model 3 reservation holder, told the outlet that he was done waiting and frustrated by Tesla’s lack of transparency. He canceled his r…

THE MODEL 3, Tesla's long-awaited mass-market electric vehicle, launches Friday to what will no doubt be significant fanfare. The unveiling isn't only a coming-of-age party for the nascent car manufacturer; it feels like a significant moment in EV history, too. “It is the car that has been promised to us since the inception of this industry,” says Terry O’Day, who heads up marketing at the electric charging company EVgo. “It’s the moment that we demonstrate a mass-produced vehicle that is affordably priced and has features that don’t require consumers to compromise in any way.” That's a lot of pressure for the relatively small carmaker. What if it doesn't live up to …
