Doomsday Clock Inches Closer to Midnight – Now 2.5 Minutes

The world has inched closer to global disaster, according to the latest update to the Doomsday Clock.

The Clock was advanced 30 seconds forward this morning, to “two and a half minutes to midnight,” during the annual Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists announcement at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C.

The reason was continued nuclear proliferation and climate change, after it had remained at three minutes to midnight for two consecutive years.

But one major factor is additional international political upheaval.

“The political situation in the United States is of particular concern,” the Bulletin board said, at the press conference and in an op-ed. “Making matters worse, the United States now has a president who has promised to impede progress on both of those fronts (nuclear and climate).”

They cited the ascendancy of Donald Trump as the 45th President of the United States of America just last week. Ever since last Friday, Trump has been constantly followed by an aide carrying the nuclear “football,” to launch global thermonuclear war within minutes.

Trump, like past presidents, has not ruled out first use by the U.S.A.

“I’d be the last one to use the nuclear weapons, because that’s sort of like the end of the ballgame,” Trump said at a town hall on the campaign trail last March.

Russia, which interceded on behalf of Trump in the November election, has 1,800 missiles active capable of striking North America. Some 1,400 U.S. warheads are pointed in the opposite direction.

The Doomsday Clock was founded by a group of scientists at the height of the Cold War, in 1947. At that time, the Soviet Union was still two years away from testing its own atomic bomb, and the Clock was set at seven minutes to midnight. The clock has reflected the belief of the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists whether humanity and the Earth are advancing toward global disaster.

Two minutes to midnight was as close as the world has ever come to global catastrophe. The last time it was set there was 1953 – and it was a response to the first thermonuclear weapons, H-bombs tested by the United States in October 1952, and by the Soviet Union just nine months later. Even during the Cuban Missile Crisis in 1963, the nuclear standoff in the Caribbean that nearly resulted in global war, the clock was still seven minutes away from the ultimate reckoning. The icy relations between the U.S. and U.S.S.R. reached another peak in 1984, amid breakdown in arms-reduction treaties.

The farthest it drifted away from midnight – the metaphorical nuclear Armageddon – was 17 minutes, as the Soviet Union collapsed under its own weight in 1991.

But the Doomsday Clock has gradually advanced over the last quarter-century. Continued tensions between the U.S. and Russia never really led to the dismantling of the huge WMD stockpiles – and nations like North Korea have gradually joined the nuclear club. In 1998 alone the clock jumped from 14 minutes to 9 minutes, based on the nuclear tests of both India and Pakistan months before. Terrorism and climate change have also contributed to the step-by-step advance of the Clock.

The last advance was from 2014 to 2015, from four minutes to three minutes, as the Bulletin cited the dangers of unchecked climate change and aging nuclear arsenals that had not been reduced in years.

The Clock was only updated at times of massive changes in the international scene for decades. But the announcement of its position has since become an annual January event.

I read a few days ago that the number of Muslims in Europe is 50 million.  Now this may sound islamophobic but bear with me and you will get my point.

As true Christians we know that all false religions get actively involved in world politics (Rev 17 - 18).  The Christians who love their politics and guns voted for Trump and allowed their fear of Islamic terrorism (the need for "security" ) to influence their vote.  We also note that Russia was contacted prior to the elections and there is mounting evidence of them influencing the vote with false information..... I think Putin is trying to destabilize USA and Europe (he hates NATO).  Russia have only their own interests at heart - not a grain of benevolence there!

Russia annexed Georgia and part of Ukraine without the world doing anything - USA looks weak.  This has given Russia incentive to flex its muscles further by breaking prior agreements regarding the building of certain weapons.   They have also made alliances with Iran and now have access to ports in Syria.  China has also flexed its muscles by building islands in seas that previously did not belong to them.... and have built runways and ports on them.......so the world powers are all posturing like cocks.  The mega-ton nuclear bombs that Russia has, boggles the mind.

Trump indicated that he does not want to be part of NATO (but now has changed this thought)  because he dare not let go of his alliances.  It has been the alliances of America with the rest of the world (its bedfellows) that has kept the balance; for renegade nations were intimidated not to go too far to destabilize the order.   It would therefore be fatal for trump to isolate America and become inward-looking.

Islam has taken the future Kingdom of Jehovah and it has made a false replica of this.  Islam (and all its eschatological beliefs) believe that Islam must expand to fill the earth and their version of law (Sharia law) must be instituted all over the earth to bring peace to the earth. We know this is a lie because Shiite and Sunni muslims hate each other.  They will work together and fight together to take over fast territories and then start fighting each other as soon as they have achieved this goal. (Syria is a good example of this, as is Yemen ).   Iran and Turkey are also vying with each other to establish the next Islamic caliphate - both treat their own people ruthlessly even though Iran purports to be a Theocracy.  (Many totalitarian states rising up - some like iron and some like clay - as in Europe)

We have good evidence of how Sharia law works in Saudi Arabia  (they have been spreading Salafist ideology throughout the world in the last 30 years and many mosques in Europe and America belong to their front organizations.)  Pockets of no-go zones all over Europe and England have already been taken over by Sharia law - it has been allowed to rule without any restraint in these areas.  (83 areas in England and 55 in Sweden are two statistics that come to mind.) Women and children have no rights and men have more than one wife (and receive state benefits for up to 4 wives and their children with each wife!..).  Imams have more powers than the pope because they can call a death warrant on any Muslim or public figure which insults Islam.)

My point is this:  If Europe is in any way destabilized by conflict .... it will create a vacuum wherein we will see the sudden rise of an ISIS- like organization in Europe and it will spread fast with much violence to Canada and many other countries -  just like it did in Iraq and Syria. The behavior we saw in Irak and Syria will be repeated..... but this time there will be no place for refugees to flee to.

We are definitely in the time of the end - that is for sure.  Jehovah may put it into the heart of the political entities to turn against all religion before this clash of civilizations comes to Europe....But they first have to realize the security issues..... and so far they  seem to be 'blinded' and are adhering to resolutions given by the EU and UN.

Trump may be the man who will broker a peace deal in the middle east and proclaim far and wide that we now have "peace and security" - which will be false of course!  He has the right personality for it!  Sudden chaos will descend.  Governments will then take steps to curb religion.   No more recruiting / preaching and loyalty to your government comes first!

This is just speculation of course.....  But all I am sure of is this: the doomsday clock is moving closer to midnight than the secular world suspects. ...

    • In my perspective, when the Smithsonian Magazine covers a topic, I am inclined to trust their expertise. As for the shadows here, I see no benefit in entertaining irrational ideas from others. Let them hold onto their own beliefs. We shouldn't further enable their self-deception and misleading of the public.
    • Hey Self! 🤣I came across this interesting conspiracy theory. There are scholars who firmly believe in the authenticity of those artifacts. I value having conversations with myself. The suggestion of a mentally ill person has led to the most obscure manifestation of a group of sorrowful individuals. 😁
    • I have considered all of their arguments. Some even apply VAT 4956 to their scenarios, which is acceptable. Anyone can use secular evidence if they genuinely seek understanding. Nonetheless, whether drawing from scripture or secular history, 607 is a plausible timeframe to believe in. People often misuse words like "destruction", "devastation", and "desolation" in an inconsistent manner, similar to words like "besiege", "destroy", and "sack". When these terms are misapplied to man-made events, they lose their true meaning. This is why with past historians, the have labeled it as follows: First Capture of Jerusalem 606 BC Second Capture of Jerusalem 598 BC Third Capture of Jerusalem 587 BC Without taking into account anything else.  Regarding the second account, if we solely rely on secular chronology, the ancient scribes made military adaptations to align with the events recorded in the Babylonian Chronicles. However, the question arises: Can we consider this adaptation as accurate?  Scribes sought to include military components in their stories rather than focusing solely on biblical aspects. Similarly, astronomers, who were also scholars, made their observations at the king's request to divine omens, rather than to understand the plight of the Jewish people. Regarding the third capture, we can only speculate because there are no definitive tablets like the Babylonian chronicles that state 598. It is possible that before the great tribulation, Satan will have influenced someone to forge more Babylonian chronicles in order to discredit the truth and present false evidence from the British Museum, claiming that the secular view was right all along. This could include documents supposedly translated after being found in 1935, while others were found in the 1800s. The Jewish antiquities authorities have acknowledged the discovery of forged items, while the British Museum has not made similar acknowledgments. It is evident that the British Museum has been compelled to confess to having looted or stolen artifacts which they are unwilling to return. Consequently, I find it difficult to place my trust in the hands of those who engage in such activities. One of the most notable instances of deception concerning Jewish antiquities was the widely known case of the ossuary belonging to James, the brother of Jesus. I was astonished by the judge's inexplicable justification for acquittal, as it was evident that his primary concern was preserving the reputation of the Jewish nation, rather than unearthing the truth behind the fraudulent artifact. The judge before even acknowledged it. "In his decision, the judge was careful to say his acquittal of Golan did not mean the artifacts were necessarily genuine, only that the prosecution had failed to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that Golan had faked them." The burden of proof is essential. This individual not only forged the "Jehoash Tablet," but also cannot be retried for his deceit. Why are they so insistent on its authenticity? To support their narrative about the first temple of Jerusalem. Anything to appease the public, and deceive God. But then again, after the Exodus, when did they truly please God? So, when it comes to secular history, it's like a game of cat and mouse.
    • I'm not bothered by being singled out, as you seem to be accustomed to defending and protecting yourselves, but it's a good idea to keep your dog on a leash. Speaking of which, in a different thread, TTH mentioned that it would be great if everyone here shared their life stories. As both of you are the librarians here, I kindly ask you to minimize any signs of intimidation or insincerity. It is you people who need to be "banned" here. However, it is quite evident that you hold a negative influence, which God recognizes, therefore you are banned from your own conscience in His eyes.
    • One issue with historian Flavius Josephus is that he suggests that the Royal Captain of the (Guard) can also be regarded as General Nebuzaradan. A confusion arises from Josephus' account of the captives mentioned in Jeremiah, as he claims that they were taken from Egypt instead of Babylon. Since Nebuchadnezzar was occupied in Rilah, he directed his generals to lay siege to Jerusalem. This could potentially account for the numerous dispatches that Nebuchadnezzar would have sent to the west, but the considerable distance to Borsippa still poses a challenge. As a result, the Babylonians managed to gain control of regions such as Aram (Syria), Ammon, and Moab. The only territories that remained were the coastal cities, where the Egyptians held sway. King Josiah decided to form an alliance with Babylon instead of being under Egyptian rule. So, that part of the territory was covered until King Josiah was defeated.  It's interesting how they started back then in 4129, but still end up with the same conclusion with Zedekiah's Defeat 3522 607 B.C. 3419 607 B.C. even though their AM is different.
