Marie Herbert, 95, of Bowerston, died Sunday morning, Oct. 30, 2016, in Mercy Medical Center in Canton.

Born April 28, 1921, in East Palestine, she was the daughter of the late Carl Henry and Wilma Marie Easterday DeLion.

Over the years, Marie was employed at McCasky’s in Alliance, Scio Pottery in Scio and Sunnyslope Nursing Home in Bowerston.

She was a 1939 graduate of Alliance High School and was a member of Jehovah’s Witnesses Kingdom Hall at Carrollton for many years and cherished her wonderful extended family there.

Marie was fond of watching cooking shows and professional golf on television. One of her simple pleasures was completing word search puzzles. She spent many of her quiet hours reading her Bible and studying her lessons for her meetings. She loved taking rides in the car so she could absorb the simple, but exquisite joy of looking at the clouds and the trees. Ultimately, her greatest joy was derived from spending time with her family because the little ones brought great happiness to her life. Marie’s family consists of 114 living descendants. She was a wonderful and loving lady whose memory will be cherished by her family.

She is survived by six children, Samuel (Joanne) Herbert of Huntersville, NC, Mrs. Sue (Bill) Host and Mrs. Toni (Jerry) Rippeth, both of Bowerston, Marvin (Charlene) Herbert of Sherrodsville, Mrs. Darla (Mitch) Edie of Uhrichsville and Edgar E. (Terasa) Herbert Jr. of Bowerston; a sister, Mrs. Kathy (Crin) Hoover of Alliance; 16 grandchildren, 42 great-grandchildren and 19 great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Edgar Eli Herbert, whom she married June 30, 1940, and who passed away Oct. 25, 1976; three great-grandsons; two brothers; and a sister.

A private family funeral service will be conducted Nov. 1, at 2 p.m. in Baxter-Gardner Funeral Home in Sherrodsville with Brother Glen Grover officiating. Interment will follow in Leesville Cemetery. Private family visitation will precede the funeral services Tuesday. The family suggests memorial contributions may be made to the Jehovah’s Witness Kingdom Hall, 515 Steubenville Rd. SE, Carrollton, OH 44615, or made in the form of a deposit to a savings account for Hunter and Hazel Copeland established at Citizen’s Bank, 15 Sherrod Ave., P.O. Box #222, Sherrodsville, OH 44675.
