The account recorded at 2 Samuel 12:1-13 illustrated in this painting reminds us of the importance of accepting counsel. After Nathan masterfully used an Illustrated to reach David's heart, David did not make excuses for his serious sin but simply said "I have sinned". And because of his humility and genuine repentance he was forgiven.Â

On an artistic note, the use of chiaroscuro focuses the attention on David while adding drama to theÂ scene.
