The crowds were astounded at his way of teaching.—Matt. 7:28. Jesus used good judgment when he preached the good news, choosing “gracious words” that amazed his listeners. (Luke 4:22) He often let God’s Word speak for him—reading, quoting, or referring to just the right scriptures to make his point. (Matt. 4:4, 7, 10; 12:1-5; Luke 4:16-21) Jesus also explained the Scriptures, doing so in ways that moved the hearts of his listeners. After his resurrection, when speaking to two disciples on their way to Emmaus, he “interpreted to them things pertaining to himself in all the Scriptures.” The disciples later said: “Were not our hearts burning within us . . . as he was fu…

Following decisions against them at the Charity Tribunal and High Court, the trustees of the Watch Tower Bible and Tract Society of Britain (the leading Jehovah’s Witness charity in the UK) have asked the Court of Appeal to permit their legal challenge to the statutory inquiry into their activities that was opened by the commission in 2014. No decision was reached today. The commission is investigating how Watch Tower safeguards children and adults at risk. It has been seeking access to the registered charity’s records since…

Show yourselves thankful . . . , encouraging one another with psalms, praises to God, spiritual songs sung with gratitude.—Col. 3:15, 16. We can learn much from the apostle Paul about cultivating gratitude. Evidently, he meditated on his blessings, for he frequently expressed heartfelt thanks. Paul well knew that he had been “a blasphemer and a persecutor and an insolent man.” Hence, he gave thanks that despite his past sinful conduct, God and Christ had shown him mercy and had entrusted him with a ministry. (1 Tim. 1:12-14) Paul also deeply appreciated his fellow Christians and often thanked Jehovah for their fine qualities and faithful service. (Phil. 1:3-5, 7; 1 T…

The latest chapter in the charity's battle with the Charity Commission could take several weeks to reach a judgment The Jehovah’s Witnesses charity, the Watch Tower Bible and Tract Society of Britain, yesterday appealed to the High Court to allow its case against the opening of a statutory inquiry by the Charity Commission to be heard as a judicial review. The charity and the commission have been engaged in a long-running legal battle since the regulator opened a statutory inquiry into the charity’s safeguarding measures in May 2014. The WTBTSB sought a judicial review of the decision to launch an inquiry and of a commission production…

1925–2016 Our sweet husband, dad, grandpa, son, brother, and friend, Robert Earl (Bob) Taylor, passed away at his home in American Fork surrounded by his wife and children on Sunday, February 7, at the age of 90. Bob was born in Springville, Utah to Cliff and Thelma Taylor, the oldest of 6 kids. In 1944, he married his sweetheart, Renae Johnson, and for 40 years they were devoted to each other. With love and a sense of humor they raised 7 children and enjoyed many wonderful adventures together until Renae’s death in 1985. Bob was a natural mechanic, and an amazing “backyard engineer”. There was nothing he could not repair, patch together, or build from scratch (except…

He was raised up.—Matt. 28:6. That the dead could live again was not a new concept to Jesus’ apostles; resurrections had occurred before they were born. They knew that God had empowered the prophets Elijah and Elisha to perform such miracles. (1 Ki. 17:17-24; 2 Ki. 4:32-37) A dead man had even come to life when his body was thrown into a grave and it touched the bones of Elisha. (2 Ki. 13:20, 21) Very likely, all of us have been greatly moved by reading accounts of the resurrections that Jesus performed. When he restored a widow’s only son to life, she must have been astonished. (Luke 7:11-15) On another occasion, Jesus resurrected a 12-year-old girl. Imagine the joy…

SHOT AND PARALYSED: Pregnant woman miraculously survives mysterious bullet; now battles for life and justice In a private ward at a physiotherapy centre in Tema, Benita Dankwa scrolls through her photographs on a Samsung tablet. The 29-year old lady does so with a pang of nostalgia because the gloomy Benita Dankwa holding the tablet is a shocking impersonation of the breezy Benita Dankwa in those photographs. The lady looking at the photographs is not the same as the woman in those photographs. No! They differ in many ways. “This is not how I was,” she says, showing more photographs of her former self to make a point. And she is right. This is not…

I wanted to change the world..... When I was a young man, I wanted to change the world. I found it was difficult to change the world, so I tried to change my nation. When I found I couldn't change the nation, I began to focus on my town. I couldn't change the town and as an older man, I tried to change my family. Now, as an old man, I realize the only thing I can change is myself, and suddenly I realize, that if long ago I had changed myself, I could have made an impact on my family. My family and I could have made an impact on our town. Their impact could have changed the nation and I could indeed have changed the world... New World Trans…

WHAT CAN BANISH ONE HUNDRED WORRIES ? A Japanese proverb says: "A joy can banish hundreds worry." This is a phenomenon that Jehovah's Witnesses are only too familiar. You were 2 hours in the ministry, have almost all cleaned pawls or wast rebuffed. Your mood is at zero. A door yet and then get yourself down home. The door opens. You will asked to come in. The householder has many questions. For more than an hour you answer to all his questions. --- The two disappointing hours ago are forgotten and you say at the end: "I now had more than three hours a great ministry." ;o)

Happy are your eyes because they see and your ears because they hear.—Matt. 13:16. Why were Jesus’ disciples able to understand when others were not? Because they were willing to search for the real meaning behind Jesus’ words, build on what they had already accepted, and use what they had heard in their personal lives and in helping others. (Matt. 13:11, 12, 36, 51, 52) If we want to understand Jesus’ illustrations, we need to follow the example of his faithful disciples. First, we need to be willing to take the time to study and meditate on what Jesus said, to do the necessary research, and to ask the appropriate questions. This leads to knowledge. (Prov. 2:4, 5) N…

A paranoid schizophrenic has been detained under a Hospital Order for attacking a Jehovah’s Witness with a broken bottle in Mirfield. Leeds Crown Court heard Shaun Dawson, who had a longstanding history of mental illness, had begun attending the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Newgate around November 2014. But as time passed the congregation noticed he was becoming disruptive and he was asked not to attend again. Michael Smith prosecuting told the court that prior to the attack on February 12 last year Dawson admitted he had begun to have delusional thoughts that people were going to his home and stealing things, including his food. On the day c…

Did God really say that you must not eat from every tree?—Gen. 3:1. After preparing our beautiful planet for human habitation, Jehovah issued three decrees regarding humans: Our God would create mankind in his image, humans were to expand Paradise globally and fill the earth with righteous offspring, and humans were prohibited from eating from the tree of the knowledge of good and bad. (Gen. 1:26, 28; 2:16, 17) After the creation of man, adherence to the other two decrees was all that was necessary to have God’s purpose fulfilled. In a villainous attempt to thwart God’s purpose, Satan the Devil instigated a rebellion. He did so by focusing his attention on the decree…
