Central Coast man who used 'gratuitous cruelty' to torture multiple women jailed for 27 years

A Central Coast man who raped and tortured a succession of women over more than two decades has been sentenced to at least 27 years in jail.

The 53-year-old man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was found guilty of 55 charges relating to the physical, sexual and psychological abuse of women he lived with between 1988 and 2014.

The man, who was a member of the Jehovah's Witnesses, was accused of raping the women with household objects and detaining them.

The sadistic nature of the offences included bashing and raping the women for not folding washing correctly, making them eat off the floor, locking them in wardrobes and hog-tying them and placing them face down in a bathtub full of water.

A number of the women have suffered permanent physical injuries stemming from the abuse.

One of the women known as JF was locked in a cupboard after calling her sister who contacted police.

When police visited the home, the offender said she had gone out.

In her victim impact statement JF said "It's hard to understand the fear unless you have lived with it," and that she "frequently believed she wouldn't be alive the following day".

In handing down the sentence in the Downing Centre District Court, Justice Sarah Huggett said the man used "gratuitous cruelty ... designed to emphasise a victim's powerlessness and helplessness".

"When one victim found the strength to escape, he found a replacement," she said.

"I have no doubt there was foresight, premeditation and planning."

Justice Huggett said the degree of violence was a relevant consideration in the sentence and that the offender was "frightening, controlling and undermining each victim's sense of security".

The court heard that while in custody, the man had been verbally aggressive towards visitors and nursing staff.

The man will be eligible for release in 2041.

Says "was", not "is".

Even so, is as relevant as his collar size or number of toes to the report without contextual reasoning.

He seems to have got off lightly by the way

I'd like to know what they are.

This is a heinous crime he was found guilty in a court of law. Only the religion that he was once connected with - whether at present or 20 years ago is not specified - can be named.

Can anyone imagine this being said of Harvey Weinstein? - that he cannot be named 'for legal reasons?' And he hasn't even been tried yet. And why haven't we heard about his religion?

The statement that he was a member of the Jehovah's Witnesses does not appear in the article that was posted. Is there another article that specifically links the perpetrator to Jehovah's Witnesses. Also, that entire phrase seems awkward grammatically when compared to the rest of the article.

So either they were not allowed to print that information either, so the newspaper needed to re-edit the article, or the information was untrue.

But I doubt it was fully untrue, maybe he was JW in a former life. But certainly not an attending JW. It is not so easy to "fnd a replacement" wife for an attending JW. They elders would probably notice something ...

Still a horrible story. Let it be said, we have predators and monsters in our society, so they are part of all groups, even religions. JW are not excluded.

On a psychological level, these people look for salvation too, and in the process often try to live up to adherent rule sets, but that does not change what they are, and it comes out after some time, usually more violent than before.

One of my daughters likes to bring up articles she reads when it mentions JWs in situations such as this. I kindly point out to her that in any large group you are always going to find people who don't live up to the group's standards of conduct. True of religious, political, and social organizations. We live in a world made up of imperfect people so it is nuts to expect all members of any group to act appropriately at all times. It just is not going to happen.

    • In 1971 I fasted for 90 days and lost 100 pounds … a pound a day … with the IBWH, “I’m broke, and what the hell” diet. The first week was uncomfortable. Not recommended if you are over 40 years old, or are not chubby to start with. I did drink a lot of water.
    • In real life “Maria” is probably really someone that looks a lot like Danny DiVito with a skin rash.

    • Maria followed me on Twitter one fine day and she was drop-dead gorgeous. No, I did not follow her back for that reason. Trust me on this: drop dead gorgeous women throw themselves at me all the time; it is a great nuisance because all I want to do is think about God. In fact, I didn’t follow her back at all, not even for the reassuring profile photo she displayed, consisting solely of “Jehovah” in gold-embossed letters. However, I did scroll her timeline and found a suitable place to leave a comment. She soon replied that she had just texted me. Sorry, I told her, I don’t do DM. I stay on the public side of Twitter. “Why?” she wanted to know. “Because if I do so I am immersed in dozens of private chats and I can’t keep up,” said I. She responded that, in that case, I could contact her on WhatsApp. I didn’t reply to that one. Next thing you know she has disappeared and all her notifications with her! I searched out her username: “Account suspended for violation of Twitter rules.” Hmm. I searched for the name on Facebook. It links to a certain bit-coin trader, also drop-dead gorgeous. No, Maria, my dear, I have all the bit-coin I need, thank you very much—even though you are drop-dead gorgeous, even though your profile does say ‘Jehovah’ so I know you are one of us, probably belonging to the congregation right next door. I’ve no doubt she has a separate profile that says Jesus, another that says Buddha, Dagon, Moroni, Baal, and a dozen others.  It is called ‘Affinity Fraud,’ winning someone’s confidence through feigned common roots. It factors into the making of E.T—The Sequel, a movie you may not have seen. In the original, cute, adorable, toddler E.T. charms all who are pure enough to let him into their hearts. But in E.T.—the Sequel, he returns as a surly teenager. He curses, spits, brawls, swears, and in the end destroys the earth with his white-hot power beam, starting with Wall Street.  Steven Spielberg, the movie’s creator, had just lost an ever-loving fortune to the Bernie Madoff Ponzi scheme. Both were Jews. Virtually all of Madoff’s victims were Jews. It was affinity fraud. Not that Maria’s scheme is a fraud, necessarily, but her means of contact certainly was. She’s probably not even drop-dead gorgeous. She’s probably an old hen. And even if she is not, so what? Is not Mrs. Harley also drop-dead gorgeous?

"Let us hold firmly the public declaration of our hope without wavering, for the one who promised is faithful.  And let us consider one another so as to incite to love and fine works,  not forsaking our meeting together, as some have the custom, but encouraging one another, and all the more so as you see the day drawing near."
      Love you, dear ones! 💖🥰

      "Grace" means "undeserved kindness".

"For we all received from his fullness, even undeserved kindness upon undeserved kindness."

"Speak to one another with psalms, praises to God, and spiritual songs, singing and accompanying yourselves with music in your hearts to Jehovah,  always giving thanks to our God and Father for everything in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ."

As you reflect on the blessings (superabundant blessings beyond all we could ask or conceive!) made possible by Jesus' precious blood this Memorial, may you continue to rejoice in the undeserved kindnesses of our beautiful Creator and Friend, Jehovah! Praise Jehovah💖☺️
